HardBlock: Hardware-based Security for Blockchain Technologies

The main objective of the project is to reduce blockchain technology limitations related to scalability issues, high transaction cost related to consensus algorithms, complex management of the physical identity (ID) of things and people and limitations of nowadays cryptography.

To reduce these weaknesses, the HardBlock project will design and implement innovative hardware devices that will interact with permissioned blockchains, generate non-forgeable IDs for things through the use of Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs) and non-exchangeable IDs for persons through the use of multi-biometric techniques, and will incorporate a new generation of cryptographic functionalities.
